Question:

How can I improve in handling?

I'm good at pretty much everything else in basketball except for handling. I can't dribble the ball properly without looking at it and I play everyday and I don't improve much with my left. Anyone have any tips I can use while playing games to improve?

  1. apart from running round your back yard practicing, idk what you really need me to tell you lol. practice your right and left, and if you're a big man, practice some spins n stuff like that. speed dribble, and practice like that, giving yourself a lot of time to switch hands.

  2. Even if u r not looking at it visualize it in your head while u look away

  3. A few things:

    (1) get a big 45-pound weight (it will look like a giant, flat plate) and grip it by the thin side with 1 hand.  Practice running with it and swinging it.  This will make your finger/hand muscles get stronger.

    (2) Try to dribble a little closer to the ground.  It's much easier to steal the ball from you if you dribble it up to your waist each time.

    (3) (along the same lines as 2) try to play with your knees bent a little more, and generally just practice dribbling with both hand while running/spinning/moving from side-to-side, not just while standing still.

  4. the best thing to do is to just practice

  5. If handling the ball is your main problem, then you need to have that ball with you every chance you get.  I'm talking about once you're out of school, get it in your hands and dribble it everywhere you go..no matter what! Make it a habit to have it with you everywhere...on the weekends too...take a walk when you get home, with the ball, set up obstacles for yourself...if you practice your handling skills off the court, they will improve on the court...guaranteed!

  6. dribble every where u go, even when ur peeing.

  7. Firstly, you have to build up your biceps, because they are the main muscle used while dribbling a basketball.

One drill that helped me to dribble better with both hands was this:

Bend your knees while you  are holding the basketball in your hands, make sure your chest is facing straight out and your back is straight, look to your left or right (as if you are looking up the court) don't look straight ahead. And then pound the basketball into the floor 4 times with your right hand, and then spin, pound the ball 4 times with your left hand, and then spin back the other way, pound the ball 3 times with your right hand, and repeat. until you get to 2 dribbles, and 1 dribble etc.

Tip: Remember to keep looking up the court.
