I understand there are some expensive exterior add ons, but is there any way to improve the speed or fuel economy on my 08 Civic?

  1. Remove any unnecessary items in your trunk that significantly add to the total weight of your car (e.g. huge speaker boxes, etc.)  The less your car weighs, the less torque and gas is needed to get your car to begin rolling forward.

If your air filter hasn't been changed, replace it with a new one and vaccuum the pipes to remove any leaves and debri that may have gotten trapped.

Recheck the timing marks on your timing belt with a timing gun (with service connector jumped).  Adjust your distributor to set your marks a few degrees before TDC (before top dead center within specifications) to get the most efficient combustion and power from your engine.  Setting it after TDC (after top dead center) can result in poor mileage.

Avoid using high powered devices in your car (e.g. amplifiers) or the air conditioner.  This can cause your alternator to work harder to provide sufficent power which also means more gas must be used especially when you're car is at a stop or on idle.

Despite commercials or advise about how to save gas by driving slower; don't believe it until you've tested it yourself.  Driving down the car pool lane at 70mph can save you more gas than 50mph on the regular lane.  Honda Civics are generally aerodynamic unlike trucks or SUVs with a flat front which creates resistance at high speeds.  Also, stop and go or brake-to-slow and accelerate activites disrupts your car's momentum; the trick to saving gas on freeways is to cruise/coast as long as you can without over-accelerating than what is needed to move.

    Good luck!

  2. I have been using an amazing product that has greatly increased my gas mileage. It was seen in USA today and is EPA registered. It has been tested and proven.

    YOu have to try it!

  3. First off....DO NOT run the tires at the max that it states on the tire itself!  This is only labeled on the tire so you don't excede the pressure limits of the tire.  More pressure does not mean better gas mileage!  IF you put too much pressure in your going to have less tire actually coming in contact with the ground.  Just thought I would put my two cents in about that.

I would do simple bolts ons.  Like a cold air intake.  You could do an exhaust too.  You could put a chip into your ecu as well, i'm actually getting ready to do that myself.

  4. keep the tires inflated to the max on the tire lable not the cars. Use synthetic motor oil with any of the ptfe additives like dura libe or slik 50 or any other they all work. the muffler can be replaced with a free flow unit thats stainless it will give a slight boost in torque and hp.

A cold air intake with a high flow cleanable air filter will yield very little gain in hp or torque but its still a gain. The last thing i recomend is that you drive like its your last gallon of gas starting off easy and being careful not to lose your enertia to quickly. Good Luck!

  5. Intake and exhuast!
