Question:

How can I improve my PS3 internet connection?

at the moment i have about 30% connection and forever getting errors. we have a netgear router about 9 metres away from my PS3. The signal passes through 3-4 walls and the router has a WEP security key (we cant get rid of that because of my dads work) and a firewall (cant get rid of that either because of my dads work). Can I buy a signal booster or another router to put next to my PS3 (connected to the same internet)?

sorry for the long question,

Benji

  1. 9 meters isn't too far away unless you have a very bad router or adapter.  (Adapters with no antennas are only good for about 3 meters.)  We'd need to now more ion order to do more than guess.  Make and model of the router?  Type of adapter (antenna or not?)  Orientations ot ehe antennas relative to each other?  (The PS3 should be looking at the *side* of the router's antenna.)  Router and PS3 on the same floor?

BTW, WEP is about as secure as "locking" a door by hanging a "this door is locked" sign on it.  Use WPA, or even better, WPA2, security.

  2. Hello,

Wow, your too far away from your router. I don't think there's anything that can help you boost your wireless signal, but i think you should purchase a long ethernet cable and connect it from your router directly to your PS3.

If you do choose to do this make sure you install the ethernet cable neatly by putting it through the frames of the door, under the floor etc. or get someone professional to do it. If you use ethernet instead of wireless your router will send signals through to your PS3 alot better and faster.

    Best of luck.
