I am trying to get a minimum of 1270 on my SAT and a 28 on my ACT, and I need help. What can I do to improve my test score? I am reading now, but what else can I do? Can anyone tell me any alternative methods in improving SAT scores (having a good night sleep, etc. is not what I am looking for)

Can someone tell me any:

1) Good books/materials that can help me study (Would love to have recommendations on any certain books-please name titles)

2) Any alternative methods (besides eating, sleeping, and reading)

3) What methods did you do to prepare for the SAT/ACT?(Which one was easier for you and why)

4) Any good websites (free) that can help me prepare?

  1. go to www.collegeboard.com and they show you how to study and good tips and stuff and get you prepaired

  2. http://www.testprepreview.com/ - free practice tests

Ask your librarian - our library has something called Learning Express that has similar practice stuff.

SAT vocab novels are almost good reading too.  I can't think of titles, but google it if you're interested.

Studying Latin and Greek roots really helped my English score because it builds vocabulary.

    Good luck!

  3. the teachers have books and stuff to study and you can look tat the material and study it should help we have 3-5 grades here have done over 90 percent should that be impressive.

  4. Lin,

I took it a long time ago and didn't do anything to prepare and got a 27 - which isn't bad, but isn't scary good either.  Later I took the GRE.  That's how I know what will help.  If I could go back in time, the one thing I would do is take about a half a dozen timed, no distractions, practice tests.  It will give you a sense of what kind of questions will be asked,  it will teach you to pace yourself,  where to focus your time,  and to concentrate more fully on test taking.

I took about a half a dozen practice tests on the GRE.  The first time I took one, I sucked rocks.   After 6 I was blowing through them.   When I took it for real I did extremely well.   I credit the practicing.

    - Good luck

  6. hi. I had the same problem.

Until my dad bought me the Princeton Review "Cracking the SAT" book...it was awesome, it explains everything, it gives you techniques on how to guess when you don't know the answer and much much more...

I'm pretty sure they have one for ACT, too.

It really helped me, just google it and you'll find a lot of good stuff about this book.

    Good luck!!

  7. get the official collegeboard book....there's i think 8 practice tests that are created by the collegeboard...who, incidentally will also create the test you'll be taking....i did a s-word load of practice tests....and i studied vocabulary that was in the actual practice tests that i took...oddly enough, i didn't prepare for the ACT, but i think all my preparation for the SAT helped because i got a really good score on the ACT...
