I'm a 14 years old scrum-half who has big problems with the tackling stuff... I'm not very aggressive inside the pitch (I think that's my main problem related to tackles...). How can I be more aggressive, and improve my tackling skills ?

  1. No gregan is retired and you should be looking at people outside your position like #8 and wing or any other position. good people to look at are David strettle or Chabel or props and locks like Nick kennedy

  2. Lets see, physc yourself out before a game, hate your opisition and any moment you get the oppertunity to tackle grit your teeth and throw self at them, the more intent to hurt them (within the rules of rugby) the more effective the tackle is and aim low!!!

  3. First off gregan isn't retired he plays for Toulon in france.  Tackle low and don't be afraid of hurting yourself because if you are your more likely to hurt yourself.

  4. I dont know where you are from but if it is Europe just watch munster videos and Peter Stringer in general he is quite small but is still one of the best scrum halfs going. If you tackle low it does not matter the size of the opponent they will fall this eliminates the need for aggression

  5. be fearless, make your mark

make yourself want to make a mark

maybe listen to some pumping songs just before you get on the field

  6. tackle low....that it the biggest thing. its useless when you try to tackle someone around the waste unless your a huge kid who can wiegh someone down. i play wing and im not very big so i know that when im going in for a tackle that if i can get their legs together then they arent going anywhere...as for aggression, that comes along with passion for the sport. i live for rugby now a days and i found that when i became so passionate i was a lot more aggressive.

  7. your a scrum half so you should be getting the ball out of the ruck, not being in it.  If your team counts on a scrum half to make tackles then they must suck.

  8. When tackling, especially because of your small size (assuming because your scrum half), getting low is SO important. You're not going to take out another player if they are bigger than you and you hit them at the hips. To make sure you're low enough, touch the grass as you're bringing your arms up to wrap around their knees. This might sound stupid but it really does help in making sure that you're low enough. Squeeze your arms together when you wrap around their knees to make sure that you take their knees out. They can't go anywhere if you have their knees. My coaches always say that tackles should be 'cheek to cheek'. Your cheek on your face should always be at the level their bum cheek is at. Remember to drive with your shoulders and you could even try using their momentum to your advantage. By saying that, I mean you shouldn't try to push straight into them. Instead, try driving to the side. This also allows you to get up quickly after the tackle is made. Also, don't wait for a player to run into you. ALWAYS approach them. It will hurt less and it keeps you on your toes as well incase they decide to dummy or fake. good luck =)

  9. peter stringer is NOT one of the best scrum-halves going.he's been dropped for munster and ireland and misses loads of tackles.if you want to look at a pro scrum-half who's a great tackler look at whitaker, gregan and troncon

  10. Always make sure your head outside the body of the player you tackle, and always aim low, like aiming for the shinbone. try to strengthen your shoulder muscles. Finally ask a veteran player than you to help you.
