Question:

How can I improve my tennis

Last year's tennis season was my first year to actively play tennis, for the first time of my life... I recognize my potential at that sport, but I obviously sucked when compared to the varsity guys. In fact, I feel that my tennis skills have actually degraded because I was much better at tennis when all I knew was hardcore power play, rather than the different techniques like top spin, slice, continental, western, skdjfldsk grips. I want to get into the group of tennis guys and play with them regularly, but I'm under the impression that I'm not good enough or experienced enough to be any fun to play with. But seriously, I could be an excellent tennis player

  1. physically prepare as getting into fitness enhancing activities such as cycling, running or swimming gives you a great advantage on court.  look at Nadal hed be nowhere near the player he is without the physical superiority and it gives you more confidence in your game knowing you can outlast an opponent.

Mentally try to play every point like its match point and dont ever give in at any point in a match.

Also play regularly to improve technical game maybe get coaching on techniques and coaches can advise you how to deal with pressure. The more you play the less nervous youll be.

enjoying the game is huge if you can keep enjoyment high and like playing matches for the pleasure of the game and thrill of competition pressure wont get too you.

Finally tactically work out your strenghts and opponents weaknesses and play to them.

  2. I don't really understand what you're trying to say. From my experience, the only people who think the hard core power players are good (who have no knowledge of spins and technique), are the the hard core power players themselves.

Tennis is a game that's more than power. Pros hit the ball really hard but they hit hard with spin, so that they can control their shots. If you want to be an excellent player, you need to pay careful attention to tennis footwork, control, grip techniques, and service.

  3. dude... play it your way. incorporate your own power and your ways of playing with the "new" anooying techniques like topspin and etc. I don't know what you can do to get in and play along with those varsity guys besides practices and stuff unless you've already know them like a friend.Hardcore power is how i play, too. i just smash it and have fun, you know? So play it the way that you are comfortable with. Good luck.

And train your stamina and endurance by running, biking, doing cardios.

  4. The thing is with spin (any kind) is that you have to slowly work at it.  You probobly thought that you were better before because you just killed the ball and hit it flat.  ALthough this appears good at first and is affective, the higher level you get the less affective it is.  With spin it makes it harder to hit the ball back the way they want it to.  In order to do spin, you must slowly develop the motion.  Than you will work out the amount of spin, and eventually will be able to hit it hard with spin.  It just gets easier.

  5. Find a good coach or instructor and work on improving your all-around game. It's going to take more than one big weapon to become a very good player.

Find good players to work on your game with. Someone you can hit and practice with. Practicing what you learn from your coach or instructor is what improves your game. Much more so than just playing.

Most players find that playing better players is a good way to push their games upwards. However, there are fewer players willing to play with lesser players.

Develope your game and the better players will more likey want to play with you.

  6. Find a good coach, work hard, practice, and watch lots of tennis and look and see wat the pros r doing that you are not doing.

  7. Play to your strength. If you play with power, play with power. Besides, if you're playing high school tennis (Or even college tennis for that matter), that's pretty much the whole game for guys. Power power and more power.

You need to play a lot of matches, and make sure to lift some weights or do push-ups so that you'll be able to win in a power match.
