right now in freestyle I am at 39 seconds for a 50 meter freestyle. I want to be down to 36 seconds by tonight at the meet. I do the dive and the flip turn but I really want to go faster.

  1. You aren't going to be able to take off 3 seconds in a 50 meter freestyle by tonight. If you are able to take off a half of a second in a 50 that is excellent. Practice as much as possible, and work on sprinting a lot in practice. Also have your coach look at your stroke to make sure that your stroke is getting as much power out of each stroke as possible. Also try taking fewer breaths during your race.

  2. 3 seconds is hard to drop at that age

  3. Practice

  4. there's no flip for a 50m race unless it's short course, if it is; the turn is very important; and forget about everything when you sprint, if you trained right, everything will come in place

    hope you did well

  5. ok well try the six kick thing the other girl said

and also, your not going to drop three seconds in one meet.

    i mean you might

    but i doubt it

  6. I'm not sure where you swim at but my kid does it in about 27 seconds. Swim hard into the wall.  try not to breathe so often.Make sure your starts you don't get to deep.

  7. Moving your hips back and forth is going to slow you down. However, you do need to use them. I had a back and forth hip problem too because I tried to just swim fast on top of the water and that meant my hips swayed from side to side which is probably what yours are doing.

Instead, think of your body as a giant pole. Different parts of the pole can't move in different directions when it is rolled. You need to use your hips to roll your body to one side in one smooth motion, and then to the other side. This is the reason swimmers have to do the six kick on your side and then pull drill. It encourages you to swim rolling from one side to the other instead of flat on the surface.

Here's an example of that drill (though they call it by a different name):

This drill will help, but the change won't come in your stroke

right away. It can take a long time to develop a good body position for freestyle and even longer to utilize it in a race so don't expect a three second drop this evening just because you've started to adjust your body position.

  8. if you turn head to get air on each move, you may want to try to hold your breath and get air on every 2 move instead, also don't turn head all the way, stop your mouth right above the water line. it will cut down the travel time and drag in the water.  Good luck, let me know how it go later !!!!

  9. Breathe less.  Every time you turn your head it slows you down.  Also, don't breathe into the wall, especially at the end of the race.  You should not breathe from the flags to the wall.
