I want to have a project at school with a number of small projects under this eco-friendly, go green theme for the Club at school.. coz we can't do a big one(permission issues). this has to be financially benifial to the club as i have to come up with funding.but also can be community service based in a way

phase 1- collecting newspapers, old jam bottles etc and selling it for recycling

phase 2- Awareness programs.. like putting up posters aroud the school, made on cloth instead of paper.

phase 3- selling home made eco friendly items: cloth bags, bracelets saying go green made of wooden beads etc.

any other ideas? ways to improvise, what we should cut out?

  1. Adopt a section of highway for your group to cleanup several times a year. You must register your section with the state department of transportation, they provide everything you need, and  you get great PR with a sign and newspaper coverage (local TV if you contact).

Planting projects are also a great way for students to bring awareness.

Contact your County Conservation Office for other ideas.  They have plenty of work that needs done!

  2. why dont you raise the simple awareness that plastic grocery bags use tons of oil to make when you go shopping take cloth bags instead of getting the plastic ones. they sell those bags for a dollar at walmart.

  3. I few things I can think of that you can raise awarness about are:

~To buy things like clothes, paper, ect that are made from recycled materials

    ~Taking shorter showers

    ~Turning off lights whenever possible

~Buying one stainless steel, reusable, water bottle instead of using regular plastic ones and then getting rid of them. This one you can clean and use over and over again!

~Walk or ride a bike wherever possible

    ~Carpool if possible

Another thing that your group can do is plant trees, bushes, flowers, ect around your house/school/ect to shade and save on using more air conditioning and give plants back to the environment!  You could ask students and teachers to donate them for the school too.  Good luck!
