Question:

How can I incorporate Harajuku and Visual Kei style into my wardrobe?

I don't want to look like somebody walking down the streets of Tokyo, but I at least want to appear very individual and different, without going out and buying all sorts of new clothes. I'm thinking of dying the underside of my hair cobalt blue, but beyond that I've really got nothing.

I'm not into the cute, pink Hello Kitty type of Harajuku, by the way. I like the more dramatic stuff, like what the people are wearing in the links below. But I'm not too big on makeup.

I don't want to look as over-the-top as the girls in those pix, don't worry. =P

    Visual Kei ish awesome :3

  3. start with jet black hair, then moderately incorporate the wardrobe and body markings.

  4. Actually, a caramelish brown color is very big in hair in japan and light bangs with the hair curled. Or you could go the colorful, edgy route. Either way, japanese hairstyles usually take a lot of time and effort. Straightening, curling, trimming, etc.

    As for clothing, check thrift shops for clothes. Make sure you go really girly, floral stuff is BIG in harajuku right now. I went shopping one day there and I returned with buttloads of stuff. When I looked over it they were all floral, but they all looked different. haha. So go girly. Shoes are big. Never wear flip flops, those are beach shoes. Wear heels. Anthropologie, the Sanrio store (hello kitty store), Urban Outfitters, H&M... you can find stuff almost everywhere you just have to pick stuff that goes with your wanted style.

    Also, New York Couture is a website that has very colorful out there clothing. So check them out too::

    Good Luck! =)

    Edit::

    Also, I forgot to add that right now jeans that are rolled a few times at the bottom to show off your ankles with heels are in right now. I know odd, I personally never followed that trend this summer, but who knows. Dresses with net at the bust and chiffon for the remainder of the dress were everywhere. Maxi dresses were also in (floor length). Island looks as well as fashion overall shorts that are colorful like red, black, turquoise. And, wide legged pants in grey or denim.

    Really, Harajuku is all about personal style. So find your personal style and you're good!
