My son is 11, he has great hitting power but he is too slow. He usually hits the wall but he is unable to turn it into a double or triple. His coaches are afraid to send him for extra bases due to his lack of speed. We are doing some work such as steps, high knees, butt kicks....... can someone tell me what can I do to help him ?

  1. long distence runs & hill work

  2. Run with him. Take him to the track and run his *** off.

  3. Just run long distances.  If you can run a long distance slowly, you can run a short distance faster...  Or do intervals.  Jog a lap, sprint a lap, jog, sprint.  But definitely do some running together.

  4. A very good idea is to start running intervals with him.

Interval training involves running one set length (make it 200 meters, which is a half lap, or 400 meters, a full lap) at a fast pace, giving yourself a certain amount of time to recover (usually between 1 and 2 minutes, depending on the distance and training of the runner).  Sometimes ,rest can be active, meaning a light, light jog.

Hill training might also be a good idea.  Hills help build power, as well as explosiveness.  Downhills help people get used to moving their legs quicker.

    Hope it helps!
