How can I increase my stamina and strength for running?

I've always been a fast sprinter naturally for as long as I could remember. I'm 6'ft, 17 years old, 143 lb's. So I'm pretty long and slender. Basically I want to increase my endurance. I can run fast but I get tired so soon. I want to condition myself for track next spring. I wish i started sooner but its never too late I suppose.

I jog a bit but sometimes i over do it. I'll run till im about to pass out. So i was hoping someone might have some suggestions for working up to it. Also tips for strength, technique and increased speed would be much appreciated.

Thanks! :)

  1. use leg weights

  2. When I was going through Basic Training for the Army I found sprints to be the best method to improve quickly. I went from a 16:35 two mile to a 13:09 in nine weeks. I would suggest 60 sec. of sprint and 120 sec. of slow jogging. I would then repeat this until you hit your desired distance. I usually do 2 - 3 miles.

  3. use leg weights!!!! no!

Go for a 10min jog and see what paste you can do for 10mins without stopping? do that everyday and you will be fit and have great stamina!

p.s start a local athletics, I do that and have great stamina, its great give it a go?

    hope this helps
