How can I increase the Horsepower of my 1999 Alero GLS?

I want to increase the HP and speed of my Alero without using a Chip. I have heard that these put a lot of unneeded stress on your engine.

chips are always bad news when u have a company make you one without knowing about your car. itll be like taking a stab in the dark to what your car needs. so dont get a chip unless your gonna make it yourself. first lets go into the basics and ill name some bolt on goodies, and by that i mean theyre pretty simple mods that you can do

cold air intake- its less restrictive and allows more air to go into your combustion chamber therefor u get more bang for your fuel, youll see a slight increase in mpg but a good increase in throttle response and hp. stick to reputable brands(fujita, aem, k&n)

headers- in other words, aftermarket exhaust manifolds, youll see a good increase in horsepower, theyre less restrictive and lets your engine breathe easier. they let the exhaust gases escape a whole lot faster than your stock system. also stick to brand names like dc sports, hooker, pacesetter.

this will earn you a significant increase in performance. find a forum online of that model car, usualy youll find them if u just google your cars year make and model. you can find a whole community of motor enthusiasts that can help you more on your quest of hp

lol i thought you said aveo not alero and im like d**n dont chip that car it might explode. yes a cold air helped quite a bit in my dads alero v6

a chip can be removed and installed at will,cams cannot.use a cold air intake kit and cat back exhust with a chip and that is the best it will get
