By giving it a straight through exhaust with only a small baffle, will I not just be allowing the engine to consume more fuel?

  1. Despite what the 17 year old boy racers might think, a straight through exhaust will not necessarily improve either power or mpg.  Engines are designed to run with a certain amount of back pressure.

It always amazes me that these 17 year 'think they know it all' new drivers seem to think that they can build a better car than teams of the best automotive engineers in the world.

You can make any car go faster, make any car more economical. Any car is designed to a good overall job to basically suit a huge range of drivers requirements, and to do so for a long time.

The biggest single thing affecting fuel economy is the drivers right foot!
