I have a playstation 3 and right now I have it connected to my 32" Toshiba HDTV via the component video cables that came with the system. I am aware that I can't get the full HD capability without HDMI cables, but I thought the component video cables can support resolutions up to 720p? That is what my HDTV is but when I try to set up the display on the PS3 it doesn't say 720p or even 480p are supported by my TV. It only stays on 480i. Am I making any sense? I'd appreciate any help.

  1. Here is the deal with component

If the source is SD, the best you can do is 480p

If the source is HD, the best you can do is 720p

In other words, SD upconversion works only with HDMI cables
