How can I increase the speed of rowing a kayak and control my balance?

  1. Good posture is the key.  Sit up straight and slightly forward.  Pull with your core muscles.  Rotate your torso.  Do not bob foreward and backward.  Do not rock back and forth.  Try to minimize your boats zig-zagging.

    Balance can be achieved with practice.  Get a Swiss/balance ball and sit on it with your feet off the ground.

    It's not really a big deal, but for future reference, a kayak is paddled with a paddle.  Boats with oars are rowed.


  2. I invented attachable(to your kayak) telescoping balance assist,made of foam and with a protective covering. I invented this as I still enjoy paddling around the shore lines. but the waves and wild water made me skittish, TO date I have never turned over and have no wish to. the foam is in the shape of small pontoon floats, and not cumbersome or difficult to use. You speed does not increase but the speed remains the same . You can also wax the bottom of kayak as skiers do for speed.
