  2. to insert rows click on the row heading to highlight the entire row, the right-click and choose insert.  You can also insert multiple rows by clicking/dragging down the row heading to highlight multiple rows, then rightclick and insert.

    columns work the same way...click on the heading (A, B, C), etc to highlight, rightclick, the insert.

    you also just put your cursor on some cell and press <ALT> I

    then R to insert rows or C to insert columns

    inserting a row, will insert it above your selection.  inserting a column will insert it to the left of your selection
