Question:

How can I insert odd page numbers only in an MS Word doc?

I have two documents, a French text and an English translation. I have to present them so that page 1 of the French text is opposite page 1 of the English text - so the pages are printed double sided. Therefore I need to insert odd numbers in the French text 1, 3, 5, 7 etc and even numbers in the English translation 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. However I really can not for the life of me work out how to do this in Word! I really need properly formatted pages numbers and can not inset them manually as I also have line numbers and any extra line for a page number will be counted. Does any one have any idea! I'm going crazy! Thank you!

  1. You should be able to do that from the Print facility which is in File.

It gives you lots of options

  2. If you're going to keep the English and French versions synchronized page-for-page, you're probably going to be doing a lot with forced page breaks.  Any chance of merging the two documents, alternating the two versions as you go?

Alternatively, you could replace the {PAGE} fields with {SEQ} fields and increment the sequence counter by two rather than by one (or twice -- I don't remember the exact syntax of the SEQ field).

Finally, lines in the header and footer don't get line-numbered, so you _could_  put the actual page numbers in by hand in place of the {PAGE} field.

    Hope one of those helps.
