Hello

I have just signed up for a sky tv package.

The sales rep told me about a thing called a quad lnb that I can install to get sky tv in four rooms of the house without paying for sky multi-room.

He told me that I would have to install one myself if I wanted it.

Could someone please give me a step by step guide on how to do it using words I can understand?

I looked on the net for answers but it all gets abit beyond my knowledge as I have never had digital before so I don't yet know much about the whole digital thing.

Thanks in Advance.

  1. A quad LNB is basically 4 seperate LNB's in one single casing.

They are supplied as standard if you are having Sky+ installed. If its regular Sky you have signed up for, then you wont get a quad LNB as standard.

You can purchase quad's at relatively low cost from Ebay.

Cut away the waterproof tape from the connection on your existing LNB.

Remove your old LNB (its the thing on the end of the dish where the cable connects to). Fit the quad. Re-connect the cable, and insulate with self-amalgamating tape. You shouldnt use normal insulating tape as its NOT waterproof.

If Sky havent yet been to install the system for you, ask the engineer to fit a quad whilst he's there. They usually have lots on the van, you may have to give him a few quid for his trouble. Far less hassle than getting up the ladder yourself.

Incidentally, to watch Sky in other rooms, you'll need more Sky receivers, AND viewing cards. Apart from Free to View channels, encrypted channels will require ANOTHER subscription (yes - more money each month!!).

If its just being able to watch one Sky channel, but in different rooms (which is what I actually think you are after), then you dont need a quad LNB at all. You just take the feed from the back of the Sky box (its marked RF2) into a distribution amplifier (preferably located in the attic) and feed a cable to each TV from there. Theoretically, you can then pipe whatever is being watched on the Sky box into as many rooms as you like (as long as the amplifier you purchase has the correct number of outputs).

    Any more questions, just ask,

    Cheers
