Question:

How can I install a wireless network adapter in my Dell inspiron 4000.?

I can connect to the internet wired but I can't find the wireless adapter anywhere ( device manager, control panel, etc.) Can anyone help me. Thanks in advance.

  1. if it's not showing up under device manager it means it's not installed and why you do not see it , you will have to install the drivers

Isn't the wireless network adapter on this system a removable PC card?  If so, I'd first check to see if the system detects its presence by powering down the system, removing the card, rebooting the system, then reinserting the card.  This should at least trigger the "New Hardware Found" dialog.  If not, either the device isn't recognized or its related driver files need to be removed and reinstalled.  The drivers needed depend on the manufacturer of the wireless card (i.e. Netgear, D-Link, US Robotics, etc.)  and can typically be found at the manufacturer's web site.
