How can I install an AC in window with an irregular outside sill?

I have a Daewoo DWC-052C air conditioner (found at http://www.e-daewoo.com/product_detail.asp?productid=56 ). My window is big enough to install the AC, but my outside window sill does not match what the installation manual (included within above link) expects the outside sill to be. Outside the window there is a 1.5 inch hollow metal border. Around the metal border, there is a 1 inch thick hollow plastic border.

The problem I find is that I don't think I'll be able to drill into the metal border (being follow, neither will it be strong enough if I am able to do so). In addition, the metal AC support bracket is too long and the leveling s***w will not land on the plastic border, since the plastic border only sticks out 1 inch from the metal border. I bought an AC support kit, but I realized now that my inner window sill is metal, not wood, so I can't s***w it in place.

Any ideas?

  1. if your installing your A/C in a first story window...cut a 2 x 4 the length from the ground to the bottom of the a/c and use it as a prop....I'd be willing to bet that the window will hold the a/c without any support at all...we use window a/c units every summer and have never supported the outside of them..and they stay just fine in the window.

  2. You should have had a handyman do it since you are so clueless.

  3. there is a website how to download a ac if you click it will say download here say yes and wait
