I tried downloading it from the itunes website but it tells me I need windows service pack 2 or a later version. I had already installed itunes when I bought the Ipod but after I tried installing another program it stopped working.

  1. If itune installation is stuck just because you don't have XP SP2, then I would say go and download that too. I would say go for XP SP3 rather and enjoy the secure and stable OS for your iTunes.

  2. Regardless of iTunes usage, you should really upgrade your XP to Service Pack 2 (or even better, 3) anyway. This fixes many security and stability issues, and is easily done via http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

And when this is done, installing iTunes should not be a problem - just as a bonus :)
