I have the installation cd that came on a macbook pro. I tried to install the OS in a powerbook g4 but it tells me that the installation cd can not be used with that machine. Is there a way to override this message?

Thank you!

  1. The only way to install Leopard on a Powerbook is with an off-the-shelf copy of Leopard. The install disks are tailored to the specific model they come with, in this case a MBPro.

Intel CPU's require a different version of Leopard than PPC based CPU's, AND a different HD file structure. If you had succeeded in bypassing the error message you would have made your drive unrecognizable to the G4 system (I've had to fix similar problems with the intel versions of Tiger, which didn't include an onscreen warning, and allowed users to s***w up their drives... and it's not an easy fix)

Bottom line: A disk that comes with a specific Mac is useful only on that exact model, Leopard will work great on a G4 Powerbook but it has to come from a Full Install Copy:
