Question:

How can I keep a turkey sandwich fresh?

I'm going to Disneyland with my friends today but I can't afford to buy dinner there since it costs about $10 a meal. I was thinking of bringing a turkey sandwich and chips with me so I won't have to buy anything. But I just have a small backpack and I don't want to have to bring a lunch pail or anything. So what can I do that doesn't involve buying anything (since I can't drive and like I said, I can't afford it, and no one's home anyway) so that my sandwich will stay fresh and cold. I was going to put turkey and cheese, then use some mayo from one of the food places at Disneyland.

We're going to go around 1 or 1:30 and we will probably be eating dinner at around 6, so I need it to last that long.

Oh and in case your wondering why I'm going to Disneyland if can't even afford $10, it's because I got an annual pass about three months ago and now my dad is having money problems so he can only pay half the child support he used to and my mom can't keep paying for that.

Thanks. :]

  1. Why don't you just pack a cheese sandwich*, some chips, some fruit that will hold up well, like apples or oranges, some baby carrots and celery and a few cookies.

Unless you can get one of those small soft-sided coolers, you're not going to want to be eating turkey that's not kept chilled. You can freeze a sandwich and it will stay cold a bit longer, but in the time frame you're talking about, it would thaw and possibly spoil.

*grab those packets of mayo and mustard that every deli has to pack and add to your sammie at the last minute.

Then you don't have to worry about salmonella.

  2. Ok no problem.  Just wrap the sandwich in saran wrap.  I do this every day for my husband's lunch that he brings to work.  If you wrap it up good and put it in your bag you'll be fine. You can use an ice pack if you want but it' not necessary for the short amount of time it will be out of the fridge.

  3. Get a baggie and fill it with ice. Then wrap about 5 more around it. Put a small rag or towel in there also in case of leakage.

Sorry I was talking about you putting it in your backpack, forgot to put that in there.
