I have uprooted them, sprayed them with killer stuff, and today I trimmed them down.

What are some ways that ACTUALLY work?

  1. Justin can you be a bit more specific with the question, I don't really understant it.

  2. Is this a small ornamental pond or a large pond?  We tried killing them out of our large pond and haven't ever been able to totally do it, since they reseed terrible and birds bring them in all the time.

We got the best handle on them when we drained out the pond so we could enlarge it and bulldozed the cattails under.  I doubt this is an option, but worked for a while for us.

  3. .........DOG TAILS !!!.........seriously though.........probably the only thing that would permanantly eliminate them would also be harmful to the ecology of your pond as well as killing everthing else that you like......I'm guessing they are possibly pollinated by bird droppings or are like dandelions with pollination , maybe wind.........a better bet would be to google cattails .....or learn to live with them except for when you are compelled to remove them by hand...I used to hand dig weeds from my yard so I wouldn't have to use pesticide as I had fish in my water garden and 4 dogs....I also lived in harmony with the neighbor's cat , Mad Max the manx , 8 squirrels and a variety of birds, occasional rabbits , etc. etc.....I DO .....however understand obsessions and  things that irritate.....maybe you'll get lucky and someone on here WILL have the answer to your question that is better than mine.......I believe that they arer probably part of the natural flora for a pond ecosystem and by natural selection  may be nearly impossible to eradicate without unnatural chemical means........
