How can I keep flies away when we're eating outside?

citronella candles are supposed to work, you may need a few.

here in Mexico we put water in little baggies and tie them over the door of the house or in your case around your outside eating area.  For what reason I don't know, the flies seem to stay away from that area.  It works for us.
