Question:

How can I keep injured pumpkins from rotting?

I planted Big Max pumpkins this year. I discovered this morning that something (probably a deer) took about three bites out of my largest pumpkin and then left. I wouldn't have minded if it had eaten it, but it really gets me upset when all they do is taste it and then leave. Anyway, the skin is breached, about 4-5 square inches, half an inch deep. Is there any way I can keep it from rotting?

  1. at halloween I rub the jack-o-lanterns with vaseline petroleum jelly to stop the cut areas from drying-rotting so quickly
