I have the window open, the ceiling fan is on full blast, but my room is so hot! I can't even sleep in there! Anything I can do to make it cool?

  1. If you put up mini blinds and or dark curtains and keep them closed during the day it will stay much cooler.

  2. put a box fan in the window and pull air in from outside.

  3. you can foil your windows to keep the heat from the sun out and just keep the fan on it works for me but at night open your window when the air is cool

  4. There's very little you can do besides what you've done to make your room cooler. I have the same problem.

But I know that a cool shower JUST before going to sleep makes the heat  bearable and helps you fall asleep more easily.

    I hope that helps.

  5. Keep the shades and curtains closed of the day, make sure you have flipped the switch on your fan to push air down toward the floor (cool air rises to the ceiling) and wait to open your windows each day until the sun is no longer shining on that side of the house--that way the heat doesn't boil into the room through the open window---but don't make the mistake of not opening them at all as the air will quickly become stiffling without AC. If you own your home consider planting a shade tree on that side of your house. Also an exhaust fan put in another window might help.

  6. There are lots of good answers already, the ones that talk about how to keep hot air out during the day, and bring cool air in during the evenings. Another possibility is an evaporative cooler; they are sometimes called "swamp coolers." They don't use much more electricity than a fan, but do actually lower the air's temperature.

  7. I put either a smaller twin blade fan (in cooler weather) or larger square box fan blowing out of an upstairs window at night.  That draws cooler air in through other windows.

I angle the blinds to keep the sun out during the day in summer (or to let the sun in during fall/winter).

But I also have a waterbed that I turn down in summer to suck the heat out of me, or turn up in winter to stay toasty warm with the heat turned down.

So I usually just run the AC in early summer (hay fever from grass pollen, and until I get used to the heat), or early evenings when I get home from work before the sun goes down.

  8. I use a window fan and actually blow the hot air out, while I cool the other side of the room with a rotating fan on my dresser. I sleep without a blanket, too.

  9. You have the right idea. It is the humidity that is making it hot. The ac takes the humidity out of the air.

  10. One  way to start to get thedead air out is  to put the ceiling fan in the opposite direction so that it draws the heat upward. Next would be to put a fan in your window and put it backwards so it sucks the hot air out. once it  is out, then you can resume your fans in the usual direction. oTHER than that, you just have to grin and bear it. You can get a cheap air conditioning window unit at home depot.
