Question:

How can I keep my indoor cats from being bothered by the neighborhood cats?

I bought a house at the beginning of the summer and moved in with my two indoor-only cats. There is a black cat that hangs around the area and he/she can often be found lounging in the sunshine on my porch, prowling around my yard or climbing on my window boxes to get a better look at my kitties. Now there is a grey cat who has started to come by and peers in my back door to check out my cats on a regular basis. I don't know who they belong to, but I have a guess, at least for the grey cat.

Visits these cats upset my cats... Bruce will puff up, hiss, and attack the window trying to get at the cats. I thought about covering the windows that are the biggest problem, but my cats like to look outside and it doesn't seem fair to block their view just because of the neighborhood cats.

How can I make these guys leave us alone? I shoo them away when I can, but I'm not always home.

  1. Blow up mini balloons. And bury it or hide it real good so when the cats walk in the area they pop and get scared. xD I guess it depends on how the area is. But that's the general idea.

  2. put the darn cats outside. that's disgusting to have them inside. they arent humans. put them outside!!

  3. There are spray repellents that are made for situations like this. The smell of these sprays is pungent, but, it won't hurt the cats. I used these sprays when I had 6 indoor cats that were killing my sofa. They work real well to keep cats and dogs out of areas that you don't want them in. The only thing with these repellents is they have to be sprayed every 24 hours. If they aren't sprayed every 24 hours, they loose their scent and won't work. You can find these repellents in pet stores and you might be able to find them in Walmart too.

  4. I wouldn't worry too much about it.  If anything, it's something for your cats to do.  Probably watching for The Enemies is the highlight of their day.

Bruce is a great cat name BTW.

  5. talk to ure neghbors if the cats are owned.  If not u can get some kind of repelent for that kind of problem in home depot or simply fill in a litter box outside in ure porch and then poor the product the will make this smell bad to them.  Dont worry ived used this product before on my dogs to keep them from sertain areas and it also works on cats.  This should solve the problem but if not i got to solutions for you.  1. theach ure cats karate. Or 2 get a Dog and make him stay on the porch area.  Good luck.
