How can I keep my rats from being bored when they're in a cage????

I have 3 girl rats, and when in the cage they seem bored. We take them out a ton, and we have toys and tubes and bedding and huts and treats for them. The toys include a plastic hanging rat with a bell that rings when they hit him, a jingly ball that is made of woven straw, and a coffee can that still has some scent. The tube is called a chube, they can chew it and crawl through it, and it has fluff inside of it that they can remove and use elsewhere for bedding, they have a straw hut to sleep in. Sometimes we also give them clean rags to lay in. Their cage is 3' high and 2' wide and has 3 levels not including the bottom which always has 3" of bedding for them to burrow in. Every week when we clean the cage we mix things around, moving toys and buying them new ones, but they still seem bored. So how can I keep my little girls from being bored? (I asked again 'cuz this question was about to expire, if you can answer this question too, that would be great:How can I refresh my question?)

  1. They're fine, don't worry about them. Rats sleep quite a bit, esp. as they get older. The best "toy" for a rat are other rats - as long as they have company and a roomy cage, they're good. I save cardboard boxes and cardboard egg cartons for my rats, so they always have new things they can chew on. But generally, they mostly prefer each other's company and like to hang out together all the time.

  2. Umm.. You have a lot of things to entertain them. You can try by adding tubes/tunnels to the cage. Long tubes will add endless hours or running through and fun. Some include wheels and lookouts. Try getting them a ball to run in when out of the cage and make sure you have a wheel in their cage. You can add more huts or hideaways. Also sand baths will add entertainment and cleaning for your rats. Try giving them hay. They can eat it roll in it and have endless fun.

P.S you pretty much have everything to keep them entertained though

    Good luck =)

  3. am try google

  4. you could get them a wheel they like to run

  5. I would say that they probably aren't bored. They might just look like it. With all the toys you have in there, and if you take them out every day, I would say there is nothing that you can do. You are doing everything possible to make them happy and you will eventually get to point when you can't do anything any more. Maybe you could buy a like little fence. They have those at the pet store and you could set your rats in there and let them really run around. But it sounds like they have a lot of room in their cage. maybe don't move things around AS much so that they know for sure where everything is. Also, do they look sick? If their sick, that would explain why they look bored.

    Hope this helps!

Oh and try getting a running wheel. That keeps my hamster occupied.

  6. Idk if anyone has already said this but here it goes.  Don't get them a wheel!! Their tail could get stuck in it and...well you know.

They seem fine, you said you take them out a lot so be happy with your rats! They'll be alright

P.S my rat likes to sleep in a doll house, so I put one in his cage and he eats and sleeps in it.  And he pokes his head out of the "windows" :P
