How can I keep rodents away from my newly planted trees?

They're only about a foot high and I'm worried rodents are lurking around them. Is there a spray to keep them away or should I put wire fences around them? Any help would be appreciated!

  1. buy plastic wraps made to protect trunks  from weed eaters, can be bought in garden dept at Lowe's-home depot. they expand as  tree grows.

  2. IF ALL ELSE FAILS,GET A GUN

  3. Keep mulches away from the tree, at least a foot all the way around.  Yes, you can put a wire fence around......but you must promise, truly promise to remove and reset that fence every year.  Too many people forget about them and they end up growing into the trunk of the trees, girdling the trees.

There are also plastic tubes you put around the tree.  Imagine a paper towel brown tube cut along that seam allowing you to loop the tube around the tree trunk.  The Ross company made these plastic tree guards for years.....I don't know if they still do.  Just remember to start them below ground and to high enough (multiple tubes) so rabbits can't stand on their back legs and nibble......experience.
