Question:

How can I keep the top floor of my apartment from overheating?

I have a two story apartment with central air conditioning, but the upstairs overheats. If I crank up the A/C, it will eventually cool off, but the downstairs will be very cold. Upstairs windows do get a lot of sunlight, so I try to keep those blinds closed.... but what else can I do on my own? Or do I need to talk to apt maintenance for something permanent? Thanks.

  1. If your top floor ends up getting hotter than the temperature outside, you could open those windows. The rising hot air will go out your open windows.

  2. Set it on fire

  3. Apply some white paint on your terrace so that it will reflect most of the sun light & the intensity of heating may be lesser.

  4. You can try closing off some of the vents in the downstairs.  That will force more cold air upstairs.

  5. The top floor is naturely going to be hotter, because heat rises, but try closing some of the vents on the bottom floor and make sure  your blinds are dark enough, otherwise hang a thick towel or blanket on them during the day to block the sun, there could be a leak so u might want to alert your landlord
