I don't have much of a problem with a little extra protein added to my meals, but every one else around me thinks that bugs are disgusting and they won't touch the sugar or flour if they see bugs in it. I use a sealed container, and evey time I empty the bug infested sugar or flour I clean the container with hot water and soap. Then add the sugar or flour seal the container, and put it away. Next time I try to use it there are bugs in it. How can I keep them from returning?

  1. When you buy stuff like that wrap them up in a plastic bag and freeze for 24 hours.  You will have no weevils.

  2. I heard to put a bay leaf in there but I never tried it; I would freeze it if you have room.

  3. You may need to bug bomb or bug spray your kitchen and clean the cabinets thoroughly.  Then, go through ALL of your dry foods and check them for bugs.  Likely, you have other foods that are old and contain these 'critters' that you need throw away.

Also, you may want to let your grocer know you've noticed the bugs in your dry foods and your grocery store may need to do some cleaning, too.

    Dear Reader,

How to get rid of flour weevils. Readers' respond:

    FREEZE 'EM

"Dear Suzanne--Your best bet for bug proofing cereals, grains and grain products is to bag them tightly and keep then in a freezer until ready for use...Freezing works.--Don N."

"You probably don't want to hear this, but it's my understanding that those little guys in your pantry don't 'hitchike their way in'; they are already there when we buy the products at the store.

I've started keeping cornmeal, flour etc. in the freezer."

  5. It could be the bugs are in the original bag of sugar or flour you are putting in the sealed containers.

  6. Ha ha hopefully you are joking...about the protein..true but disgusting

I keep them in the fridge

  7. capture them! go pokeball!

  8. Well a better sealed container. Some places just get them worse than others. If you have older grains and stuff in your cupboard throw that stuff out.

  9. Haha extra protein. xD

Lol that was a good one, Oswaldothelegend...

    Throw a pokeball at it.
