How can I kick my addiction to soda-pop?

I drink alot of soda. I know its a nasty addiction and I dont want to get diabetes. My grandma uncle and sister have it. So lately I have been worried. I thought about switching to coffee with only 3 teaspoons of sugar and a little bit of milk but I still crave soda. What can I do to get rid of the cravings. When I want it, its like having a "nic-fit" just like a smoker. The headaches are so bad not even painkillers help. I tried drinking more water instead I just need the soda it feels like. HELP!

  1. i started last month not drinking sodas, my daughter also did this too.

we made kool aid, set it in the fridge, took out the sodas.  now after a month tea and kool aid is all we want..

    we never missed the sodas.

    try it.

  2. I am afraid the way that I did it was cold turkey. I just decided one day, enough was enough. If you can get through like 3 days you are golden. I had terrible headaches as well for those first 3 days but after that I was fine. I don't even miss soda at all now. I drink Crystal Light or the flavored carbonated water now. With the carbonation you get the fizzy feeling of the soda. Some of them even taste like soda. For instance, lime ones taste like sprite. I gave up coffee and tea as well. No more caffeine for me or my hubby!

  3. Try flavored carbonated water. You will still ge the fizz with out the caffeine.

  4. I was a soda addict too, but if you can stay off the stuff for 3-4 days, then you've got it licked!  your craving for soda will be minimal.   It is the carbonated tingle we love so much that is the toughest thing to whip!

  5. Whiskey...you will pass out in one hr..and drink way less soda!.good times

  6. im the same exact way..i drank pepsi  like sicne i was lik 3 and im 15 now.. so yea.. and wen i drink water i get sick i get sick with everything but soda..

  7. If you find the miracle cure be sure to let me know.  Soda...caffeine seem to be my addiction...like cigarettes to other people.

The most effective method is probably to just go cold turkey...but that is unheard of us for most of us because our will power sucks.

What I have found to be most effective with the headaches is Excedrin...it has caffeine in it...the lack of caffeine is the big culprit.
