Question:

How can I learn algebra and Geometry?

Here's the deal:

I'm 13 and my school is small. The education is horrible. We have no gifted or talented programs, and we're not allowed to skip grades.

I reallllllly love math and would love to expand my knowledge of it. I am pushing for being able to take the ACT this year (to asses my knowledge and will determined if I can get into a gifted boarding school.), and as unlikely as it seems, I would like to be well prepared for the math section.

I can do most freshman algebra, but since I have no way to determined this. I know barely any geometry (well, not about 7th grade level). So, (finally, here's the question) is there any free way that I can learn sophmore algebra and geometry without a tutor.

There is NO way for anyone here to teach me. My school is not going to let teachers tutor me. I don't want to spend money on a private tutor.

Preferably it would be online. Plus if you have any books you'd like to recommend, please say so (I can go to the library). Thanks!

  1. Hi!

It's nice to see you as a young student wanting for independent study! I like that kind of effort.

I need you to state where you live because if I am going to help you buy some textbooks, I need to know the correct region to look and shop for.

In the meantime, try www.prenticehall.com. You can even go to your local bookstore and buy some study guides, such as Spark Notes or Cliffs Notes. (For more info, go to www.sparknotes.com or www.cliffsnotes.com)

Good luck and I hoped I helped!

  2. so your in 7th grade, thats weird that your school doesn't teach these classes, my school is really small to, and i took Algebra 1 in 8th grade, and Geo in 9th, Alg 2 in 10th, and im taking Pre cal this year.

The only books i know of are glencoe textbooks, they are the only thing my school uses. I can look through the internet to find some sites that may help you, email me if you want me to find some. Im pretty good at math, I got a 97% in Algerba 2. so i know my math. if you want i can try to help.

    Just email me.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!-------d:^)

  4. Um Im unsure on any particular books, but if you could get a sophmore maths book (possibly from the library) and just work through the chapters your unsure on, that would most definitely build a bit of confidence. The best way to learn Maths is to practice it, or even better again teach it to someone else. So if you could study up on your geometry and algebra then teach it (successfully) to a friend there is no way you could do bad.

This is because you will have to have a pretty good understanding of the topics to be able to teach it.

Hope this helps. Good Luck ;)
