How can I learn jewelry/stone wire wrapping?

I tour a lot I met a lot of people in the New York Area that teach wire wrapping but I don't know anyone that does it in the D.C. Metro Area. I was wondering if anyone familiar with jewelry/stone wire wraps could recommend a good book to learn some different styles. I plan to visit a Micheal's to find some cheap bronze or brass wire to practice with.

  1. the book(s) you want are "All Wrapped Up" and "Basic Wire wrapping" both available at Amazon.com, go to search and type in wire wrapping.

Also check out Etsy.com, they have some great shops with dvd instructions for sale.

I'm just starting to learn and take my advice, get good tools, not cheapies, dead soft wire, and start out on a bigger stone, about 30m.m., take your time. And believe me, it's totally addicting!!!

  2. Welcome, With Great Regards,

There are no great books on wire wrapping. I came to California to meet the great Wire Wrappers of the Lakota Souix, of Chief Wallace's Tribe.

The other way is to find "John Free" of the Rainbow Tribe, who is the best in the world at wire wrapping. Attend a Rainbow tribe convention and ask anyone for "John Free", If they don't know John you can go to the central Teepee's and simply enter with reverance toward the elders, tell them that Gus from the California beaches said Aho! I wish I could send photos, but please listen up, if you tell John Free, Gus (myself) said hello, you will recieve free training  and beautiful pieces. Sometimes you will purchase some wire as he treats you to the magic of the art. Museum quality.
