I'm a 21 y/o woman and can't dance. Actually I don't really try so I'm not sure if I can or not. I just figure I'll suck. I get images in my head of everyone laughing and pointing at me screaming "who let the convulsing chicken into the club?!" Even though I have been told I can move my hips pretty well in other circumstances ;-P so maybe not all hope is lost.
I'm very shy so learning how to dance would help get me out of this shell and open up a whole 'nother world for me. I need to stop being the only loser at the club sitting there, watching everyone but myself dance and have fun. It makes me feel like a failure at club life. How do I fix this?
Also, after the tons of blood, sweat, and tears I plan to spend honing my (hopefully) soon-to-be awesome dancing skills, I would like to professionally do something with them. Like say, dance for a sports team. I know, I know, you're thinking "you putz you don't even know how to dance and want to do something that requires the pinnacle of dance skills". But I'm dedicated to doing this and once I start learning I'm going to want to be the best I can so why not set some goals? Even if I don't get there at least I'll be in a h**l of a lot better spot than I am right now.
So what type of dance classes should I take? How do I learn moves that I can actually use at a club and keep from looking too choreographed? What great (not just eh good) DVDs out there give you a foundation of dancing skills to build from and are actually worth the $$$? And what kind of dancing experience would prepare you to do something like being a dancer for a sports team?
I appreciate all responses. Thanks!
