Question:

How can I learn to dance & become a dancer for an NFL team? (I realize the ridiculousness of my ?)?

I'm a 21 y/o woman and can't dance. Actually I don't really try so I'm not sure if I can or not. I just figure I'll suck. I get images in my head of everyone laughing and pointing at me screaming "who let the convulsing chicken into the club?!" Even though I have been told I can move my hips pretty well in other circumstances ;-P so maybe not all hope is lost.

I'm very shy so learning how to dance would help get me out of this shell and open up a whole 'nother world for me. I need to stop being the only loser at the club sitting there, watching everyone but myself dance and have fun. It makes me feel like a failure at club life. How do I fix this?

Also, after the tons of blood, sweat, and tears I plan to spend honing my (hopefully) soon-to-be awesome dancing skills, I would like to professionally do something with them. Like say, dance for a sports team. I know, I know, you're thinking "you putz you don't even know how to dance and want to do something that requires the pinnacle of dance skills". But I'm dedicated to doing this and once I start learning I'm going to want to be the best I can so why not set some goals? Even if I don't get there at least I'll be in a h**l of a lot better spot than I am right now.

So what type of dance classes should I take? How do I learn moves that I can actually use at a club and keep from looking too choreographed? What great (not just eh good) DVDs out there give you a foundation of dancing skills to build from and are actually worth the $$$? And what kind of dancing experience would prepare you to do something like being a dancer for a sports team?

I appreciate all responses. Thanks!

  1. well if you are scared to dance at a club imagine it in front of thousands of people you prolly need to get over that

  2. hmmm some ideas: start checking out all your local dance clubs, hip hop, salsa etc, and watch people dance, maybe even join in. I've learned most of my moves from watching other people or from my friends. I"ve also learned from watch shows like america's best dance crew, etc. you can record those shows and copy the moves, it sounds dumb but it works. I also record music videos and buy music video dvd's, even britney spears! i love dance and dancing and enjoy doing it for fun, that's why i do this. anyway, you can also check with your local college and see if they offer any classes, i know mine does they offer salsa, hip hop, jazz, etc. You can also check out local dance contests, over here in 2 weeks they are gonna have a breakdance contest they have every year.  Keep your eyes and ears out for anything that has to do with dance.  You can also make friends with people who dance, they can teach you moves.  Also check out basketball or footballs games for the half time shows to see the girls in action.  You can also check out videos on cheerleader moves those help too.
