I'm in 8th grade and very, very nervous about high school volleyball tryouts in August. I'm only 5'4" and want to be a setter or hitter. What's the best way to learn how to jump higher? Are there certain exercises to I should practice?

  1. You could put leg weights around your ankle and that will help.

  2. Are you going to be growing much more? Because 5'4 is pretty short. You may have to go libero unless you have mad hops.

  3. I'm also in 8th grade and VERY nervous about volleyball tryouts!!!

    But:

    1. You should run short sprints, they increase muscle.

    2. You should do lunges, keep your butt and knees down, and leap forward as far as you can

    3. Wear ankle weights, they are an easy way to increase leg muscle

    4. Eat lean foods, the body weight you have should be muscle

    5. When you can't go outside, do simple workouts like lifting yourself up by going on your toes, then go back down. It'll work.

    Good Luck!

  4. just do exercises with your legs; like squates; lunges; and all that stuff; to increase your strength.

    also; just PRACTICE!

I'm in 7th grade; and I can jump higher than most of my school's highschoolers; because i always am practicing my approach; and jumping.

what i do is try to jump up (or take an approach) and hit the beams in our house; then after i got that down; i tried to hit the ceiling; then a higher ceiling; ect.

i also do a lot of leg exercises; like lunges; squats; running/jogging; and i use exercise equpment for lifting weights with your legs.

good luck at tryouts next year!

  5. #1 its all in your approach to the net...( make sure your approach is perfect and PRACTICE!)

    #2 Jump Rope VERY IMPORTANT!!!!

    #3 squats

  6. I'm 5'4 and in 8th grade as well, and I'm a pretty decent outside hitter. I get my strength to jump high from my approach. When you go left, right, left, you pull your arms back and then up so you can be ready to swing. If you don't use your arms, all your momentum is gone. Also you can do squats, put ankle weights, and run a lot to build muscle.

  7. Well my town doesn't hold a middle school team. A short net is always good =) You can spike a lot better, and block better

  8. i stink at voolllyyy baallllll

  9. do squat and lunges.. and anything tht has to do with your legs..

  10. ah, another question about increasing your jump. i love these kinds of questions. there is a program that i use for my conditioning and my vert training. here is a link to it:

    http://www.ultimatehandbook.com/Webpages...

it has raised my vert about an inch in 4 weeks. there are other exercises you should practice too, your approach is one, and practice maximizing your potential to jump. this means, right before you jump, go down as low as you can, and swing your arms up as fast as you can. the centripetal force will add to your jump. having a quick approach will built momentum so you forward motion can be changed into upward motion. do short explosive sprints no more than 10 yards. do jumps with just your arm swing and legs. and most of all have fun doing it.

  11. sit-ups. they help improve your jumps and they keep your tummy area toned, firm, and look hot for the beach

  12. i play basketball and these excersizes helped me dunk so hopelly they can help u out...

    1) DONT WEAR ANKLE WEIGHTS they will mess up ur knees and you need those for any sport so plz stay away from them and they wont even help that much if anything a weighted vest

    2) wall squats - just sit up against the wall like u are on a chair and gradually bring your toes up and down. you will feel it immideatly (spelling sxz) but continue to keep doin them every day

    3) squats - u prob don't want to have bulky muscles so light weights and a lot of reps will get you strong and toned

    4) lunges - try holding weights in your hand while you do them and also light weight but a lot of reps

    5) jump rope - kind of self explanatory

hope this helps you and good luck @ tryouts when i was going into my fresh tryouts i just tryied to think that i was better than everyone so keep that mentality

  13. ankle weights

    :D they help!
