I know wine is an aquired taste and right now I'm not fond of it at all. How can I get myself to start appreciating the taste of wine? Any suggestions on a type of wine / brand I should start off with?

  1. well i happen to think wine is good, but i mean you cant learn to like the taste of something, if you dont like it then, dont drink it, its going to feel aweful drinking something you hate. If you really really wanto to drink it, then dont drink it alone, have something to get the taste out, like idk, food....maybe...party treats if you're in a party....also you can try different types of wine to see if you like any of them

    hope this helps

  2. Wine is not an aquired taste!!! It's delicious like chocolate!!! Everyone is supposed to like it. But anyway, try Arbor Mist. It's a puny wine that you will like now but when you love wine you will think its horrible.

  3. I'm not a huge wine buff myself but the best thing you can do it continue sample different wines until you find one you like. The servers at many high end restaurants can help you in finding something to compliment your tastes, and specialty liquor stores can do this, too. I also felt going to a winery and sampling many different wines helped me to determine what I like best. I, myself, have still not developed a tastes for reds, but I do enjoy a couple of whites that are very light like Rieslings and Viogniers. I also really enjoy wines by Fish Eye (fairly inexpensive).

  4. Hm, just drink a lot of it. You will get used to the flavor and eventually enjoy the taste.

  5. Are you just trying to seem sophisticated? If you don't like the taste, don't drink it.

  6. Find out if there is a wine-tasting club in your area, or a restaurant that has a regularly scheduled wine-tasting each week or each month.  There is a very, very wide range of flavors in wine so you need to try different ones until you find one you like.  An organized wine-tasting allows you to properly taste a lot of different wines so you should be able to find one or more that you like.  I've never heard that wine is an acquired taste.  Most of the people I know have identified what type of wine they like and, more importantly, what kind of wine they DO NOT like (and they refuse to drink what they don't like).

  7. If you really want to learn to appreciate wine, the first thing to do is wean yourself off sweetened drinks, especially diet sodas. Cut back, then cut out, sugar in your coffee, then do the same with milk. Replace soda with unsweetened juice and unsweetened tea. Once you're used to black coffee, you'll wonder why you ever doctored it up.

Wine is a high acidity drink. In most wine, almost all of the sugar is fermented into alcohol. If you aren't used to that combination, you probably think wine is sour.

Wine snobs will ridicule this, but start with White Zinfandel. It has some residual sugar to cut the tang. From there, you can go to German Riesling (not one that says Trocken on the label) which is a far more complex, interesting wine than White Zin, but also has significant residual sugar.

Meanwhile, find yourself a good wine shop that has free tastings. Find out which wines you dislike least. As you go forward, you'll find your tastes changing. Embrace it. One of the best things about wine is that there is so much variety.

  8. Start with a lighter, sweeter, white wine.  Many German wines or german-style wines would be a good start.  Try a zinfandel.

Chill your white wines well.  Reds are better at room temperature.r

When you start on red, try something like valpolicetta or Italian reds. Red wines are better with stronger tasting foods like Indian food or something with onions and garlic.

If you find that you really aren't enjoying wine, stop forcing yourself.  You might be a beer person.

  9. don't feel the need to change urself for society. if u don't like it, u don't like it. b confident 'bout ur feelings & opinions.

  10. Drink a lot of it.  You will love it.

    .

  11. First of all you'll like the sweet wines first.  Or you'll even like "spritizers" (1/2 and 1/2 wine to Sprite).

Then over time you'll try dryer wines and develope that taste.

  12. While I don't think you should force yourself into liking something. Its always good to know a good white and red for those special occasions.

The only thing you can do is sample. Go to a local winery or vineyard and sample what they have. Host an in home wine tasting. I work for a company that does that. However if that is not available in your state, just sample. Try a Riesling or a dessert wine Viogner is a good wine for fruit pies, etc.

Don't just try to drink wine from the glass- pair it with food. Next time you have a plate of pasta with tomato sauce pair it with a Sangiovese.  Desserts like I said try the Riesling or Viogner. Sauvignon Blanc is also a good wine.

Nobody can tell you what to start with, you have to like it yourself. If you do not find a wine that you like~ Don't sweat it! Wine isn't for everyone. Just like beer isn't for everyone.
