I have a serious issue, no matter how bad (even to the point of pain) I cannot pee in water. Makes going out on the boat, lakes, rivers and any water sports very difficult. PLEASE HELP!

  1. Start out in the shower and work your way up to the bath tub, hot tubs and pools then streams, rivers, lakes and finally the ocean, Just let me know where you are doing it.

  2. Relax, take a depp breath, exhale, and think about something else.  Basically it sounds like your muscles tighten up.  If necessary, push on your bladder with your hand.

  3. pee like you would pee in the toilet

  4. Just let it flow.

  5. Dude, just relax.  I've got a buddy with the same thing.  When he goes boating with us, (which is seldom) we have to take him to shore so he can go pee in a toilet.  He/we call it a shy bladder.  They say 7% of the public suffers from one form or another of it.  We just don't post it on Yahoo for the whole world to see (just kidding).

Medically he and you have what's called "Paruresis" which is a common type of phobia that is very cureable using common phobia treatments, such as behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, and drugs.

For more info, check out the IPA (International Paruresis Association) website.  It is a site provided as a resource for people who find it difficult or impossible to urinate in the presence of others, either in their own home or in public facilities. Also, for people who have difficulty under the stress of time pressure, when being observed, when others are close by and might hear them, or when traveling on moving vehicles.

    Here goes:

    http://www.paruresis.org/

On this site you will find support groups, support seminars (workshops), and even drug therapy. There is also a useful and friendly discussion board where you can share your problems and success -- or just "listen in" -- with others who have the same problem as you.

Also check out some of the links on Wiki's "Paruresis" web site for more info.

And once again, to you all in SoCal, me and my NoCal kayaking buddies pee in your drinking water.

    Happy boating (and peeing).

    Late-

  6. I've never heard of anyone having this problem.  Maybe slowly acclimate yourself, or start peeing, then dive in the lake in mid pee, you'll likely keep going.

  7. oooooooo.....kay, i've never heard of this problem before!!!

  8. Perhaps avoid the water. Or, pee before you enter the water. It's not that big of a deal. Just limit your time out on the water I guess.
