I Know how to sing, and i am pretty good at it.But I would like to know how to read music right off of a sheet. All I've done before is listen to what someone else has sang and repeat it.

  1. learning to read is a great thing to do for a vocalist. it will help if you have access to a piano, or other instrument. But the piano is a great way to visualize the notes. I am sure there are lots of websites on the internet that tell the basics so I will just link to one.

  2. You can go about it different ways.

    1) Get a teacher. I learned music from a teacher when I was four-- if she could teach a preschooler, anyone can teach you.

    2) Buy a music workbook and study on your own. You'll learn the basics of the staff and its notes.

    3) Always practice reading, with a piano if possible. At first, just name the notes out loud (A, D, etc.) Then try to sing them. Remember that it can take years for a singer to be able to sight-sing well.
