  1. there are several ways. do you want pro lessons? then go to a surf shop on your coast and ask. i know Ron john's offer lessons. or you can do what i did. let your brothers push you out and watch someone.i started on a long board, and i was able to get up by the end of the afternoon.

another good option, if you want out of the water training, go to surfline.com the site has instructional videos, workouts, advice, ect.

above all, have fun, enjoy the water and your fellow surfers.

  2. the best way to learn how to surf is by having a friend or relative teach you, or you can go to your local surfshop and speak to one of the employees that are there, usually the surfshops have programs for beggining surfers which they will teach you how to surf at your local beach. If you cant do any of the above there is also the option of joining the Billabong Surf camp, its a great experience for up-and coming surfers, and the counslers will get you up on your first wave in no time.

Also you should get a longboard as your first board, usually they prefer softie boards but a regular fiberglass board is also a good choice.

good luck and hope that you will be riding very soon.

hope the info helps you out.

  3. i'd wait til the water gets warm, cold water can put you off!

surfing is an absolutely brilliant sport and you WILL get addicted, so be prepared to give up your weekends when the waves are good!

i would start out in white water, on a longboard. you can buy one, borrow one or rent one, just as long as its a longboard, shortboards are a nightmare!

start slow. practise catching waves first. point your board to shore, jump on, paddle until the wave gets to you, paddle some more, then lean slightly on the front of your board. stay centred on your board, so that your toes are hanging off the end, your hands on the rails near yourshoulders or slightly behind them.

get the hang of this, then practise turning - lean to either side.

when you can easily catch any wave, it's time to stand up!

    1. catch the wave

    2. push up your upper body and put your toes on the end of your board.

    3. push your knee up to your chest (left if you are regular, right if you are goofy)

    4. push your whole body up into a standing postion, crouching.

do this as fast as possible and keep your balance. try this on land first.

hope this helps!! the most important thing is to have fun!! dont give up!!!

  4. Find ocean with waves. Watch other surfers. Paddle out. Get your a$$ kicked till you figure it out.

Sorry, but paying for a camp won't change that.
