I just got an above ground pool and great deck from a friend. We were doing some other work around our house so now we have decided to tackle the pool project. We live in Connecticut so after getting all the permits and everything we are just now starting to dig for the pool. When everything is done i.e. electrician and checked by the building dept the pool probably won't be in for a month or longer. I was thinking of leaving the pool shell, without a liner but covered for the winter. Is this something that I can do? That way I can put the liner and the water in next spring.

  1. Don't. The shell will likely collapse and be ruined with the first strong wind. Snow on top of the cover would also bend it badly. If you are not going to fill it, don't construct it.

  2. Agree with previous, fill it or wait till next year

  3. leave the liner and water in; this will keep the pool in your yard.  next spring drain and scrub the ring off.
