Question:

How can I leave the UK with an expired passport?

I have dual nationality, Brazilian and Spanish. As I am a citizen of the EU I currently live in the UK, have a national insurance number, have a permanent job and intend to remain in the country.

However, my Spanish passport has expired and I really need to go to Holland on a short notice, for four days. It will not be enough time until I renew my Spanish passport.

My Brazilian passport is still within date. Can I leave the country with it? Also, on my return to the UK, as I will be presenting a Brazilian passport, will they give me a visa?

As long as I can re-enter the country it is not a problem as within less than a month on my return my new Spanish passport will be available from the Consulate.

It is a matter of urgency.

Please advice me!!

  1. The answer is simple. - No - if you use your Brazilian passport you will be asked for a Schengen Visa when entering the Netherlands coz then you will be treated like a Brazilian citizen. - How ever the spanish consulate can help you out with a transient passport- Just ask 'em.

  2. no, you cannot use the Brazilian passport,

    you will need a visa to enter the schengen zone;

    and you entered the UK with the Spanish passport, where your resident visa is applied,

    and you will not get a # laissez passer #

    from Spain,for,this is not an emergency,

    if you left with your Brazilian passport? you would not be able to reenter the UK.
