What I mean by road noise is the sound of the wind and/or tires.

  1. tire alignment? atleast for the tire noise...

  2. RADIO - TURN IT UP LOUDER.

Seriously,,,, road noise comes from a variety of sources,,, air rushing around the car, tires on the road, etc. etc. etc.

    1. Get a good tire, proper balance, proper inflation, proper alignment.  Tell the tire person you are concerned about road noise,,,and you will probably get a "less aggressive" tread pattern.  You are looking for a grand-pa tire,,, so to speak.  (these are also better on gas milage, because they have a touch less rolling friction).

    2.  No fancy dancy rims, praticulary spinners....

    3.  Check the gaskets around your doors and windows.  Gaskets are the rubber pieces.  They should make good contact, and not have tears and rips.  Even if they pass a visual inspection, make sure you are protecting them.  A little silicone type car interior polish, on a rag, then rub down the rubber.  Looks good, and seems to help keep the rubber from becoming stiff and UV damaged.

    4.  No fancy radio antena's, or other stick on type junk, that just hangs out in the wind.  Clean and mean,,,, thats it.  Make sure your grill inserts, or other bolt on pieces are secure.

    5.  Inspect your carpet.  If it's worn, damaged, crushed, etc.,,,, it can have a lower sound insulative quality.  Replace it if you need to.  But if you are going to go to that extreme, look for some after market mats, (insulation) to go under the carpet to help stop the noise.
