How can I lighten my hair after dying too dark?

I used an at home hair dye pack. It said Bitter Sweet Chocolate, thinking it would be a nice medium/dark brown. As my hair was lighter brown, I decided not to leave it on for the full time. Anyway, that was pointless becuase it turned out BLACK! I look like a goth (no offence, but it so doesn't suit me! What can I do to lighten it to medium brown????

  1. Allow your hair to soak in a solution of bleach, which has been cut 25 to 1, for about 10 minutes.

  2. You'll need to bleach it otherwise the lighter color will not show up.

  3. Usually the sun will lighten your hair and washing your hair will lighten it slightly and if you use a strong shampoo that can even get the dye to come out even if its permanent ^^ Good luck

  4. Well, you have a few options. I've had this happen to me many times and it really sucks.

You can wait a few days (I'd recommend a week or two, but a minimum of three days should be fine) and grab a new box of hair-dye, lighter than what you wanted in the first place, but not a lot lighter. Then use it for the full time. It may damage your hair, but as long as you use protective shampoo's and conditioners after and you don't over-style your hair, it'll be as good as new.

You could also just leave it the way it is. It will fade out after time but that'll take a while. To speed up the fading out, you could use clarifying shampoos and conditioners. (Ones that are meant to take a lot of product and gunk out of your hair)

Your last, and most expensive option, would be to go to a hair salon and have them fix it professionally. If you have the money, this is what I would reccomend, because they'll do it right, the first time. However, doing this can be really hard on your wallet, so it's really your choice.

Hope I helped, best of luck.

  5. go to your local salon they will help you out.. and don't use the home hair dye pack again! hah. my friend used that once and it wasn't the right color.

at all. or you can go to your local mall usually they will have salons in the mall. usually highlights or lowlight I'm not sure witch one.

  6. Ben there done that. The best advice I can give is to see a professional and take in the box of hair color you used so they can see what type of dye you put it.  Doing an at home fix job, will only result in turning your hair red or orange. Good Luck!

  7. try washing your hair alot to wash out the color

  8. DO NOT USE 25/1 BLEACH  as one poster answered! What horrible advice!

You can try a deep conditioner which will left the color deposit up a bit. It might also fade after a few washings. The only real way to lighten it up is to use bleach and I would suggest seeing a professional colorist for this if you do not want orange or red hair. If you apply other box hair color on top you risk getting a funny color ( green for example if you use an ash based color). A colorist can lighten up the whole thing or place highlights in your hair.

    Hope this helps!

  9. use lemon juice (freshly squeezed from REAL lemons) and let that sit in your hair. :) good luck and i hope i helped
