How can I limit the internet speed in my house for one computer?

Ok , Tech savvy people I need your help.

I have one mac and one pc sharing the same internet connection, the thing is everything was fine until my cousin started downloading his huge skating videos, ugh . and now when I m browsing is totally sluggish.

I would like to have control of the internet speed from my mac. Please Help..

  2. I think the only way you could do that is to get 2 internet connections (2 modems). The only thing is, you'd be paying 2 bills. Tell your cousin to download those things while you're sleeping or something.

  3. What is the software your cousin using for downloading.

    The software usually has a function of limiting speed,

    simply click on the settings.

  4. With most routers you can't control this...

    HOWEVER, if you have a router that happens to support the dd-wrt firmware  http://dd-wrt.com you are in luck.  (Most Linksys WRT-54G routers will support at least the micro version.)

    Check the hardware compatibility page to see if your router is supported... Keep in mind the model number must match EXACTLY... for example the WRT54G V8 is supported, V8.2 is NOT...  EVERY number must match...

    If it's supported, install the dd-wrt firmware, then you can go to the QOS page and set priorities based on the MAC address of the machines and/or by which port the computer is plugged into.
