How can I listen live to local radio if I am out of the area?

I want to listen to a community radio station but live elsewhere so can't pick it up on radio. Its an FM frequency.

The website has a listen live button, which opens up an html / internet explorer window, with a "media player" type thing, with play / stop buttons etc. But it just says ready, without actually playing anything, even when I click play. Is there another way I can tune in somehow? Maybe via internet?

I have itunes and windows media player, would either of them work?

  1. It would help if you said where you were and where the station was.

  2. Very much depends what your station is broadcasting via on the Internet.  You might need to download Quick Time Player - it's free.

On-line radio stations broadcast via different media - some use what you've already got, others use QTP and yet others use other methods.  You should check the website of the station and see how they broadcast via the Internet. . . . .

  3. Ok, sorry for asking a really basic question, but have you tried using a different web browser to access the radio station and then try listening live? I'm only asking coz on my old pc I had some probs listening to BBC using Firefox, I had to use Explorer. I recently upgraded with a new laptop and now I can listen using either of those browsers - never worked out why tho!! Worth a try anyway, good luck :)
