I sounds like you are using USB to download the video.

The Sony DCR-TRV480E is a Digital 8 camcorder.

Transferring the miniDV video using USB is no longer supported (and you know the reason why). You need to add a firewire (IEEE1394a, i.Link - all the same thing) port to your computer and connect the camcorder's DV port (not USB) to the computer with a firewire cable.
