How can I look up a case number for free online?

I looked up a name and it listed 2 criminal records, but asks $39.95 to find out what they are for. It does however list the actual case number and date received. Is there a website that one can access this info for free, considering it's public information?

  1. Court records are FREE from the court.  Online companies charge a fee to do the work for you.  Virginia courts have all the info online.  I'm not sure about other states.

  2. Even if it's public information, there is usually a fee to obtain it. Try going directly through the agency holding the record.

  3. i dont know what information you are trying to look up, but if you go to lasd.org and than inmate information, it shows you the inmate name and birthday, and bail amount, next court date, etc.

  4. if it gives you the county and state try googling "court records county, state" some counties have it free whie others charge. without knowing the county, state I have no clue.
