I'm 32. After a divorce, I moved back to my hometown. I obtained what is considered a good job around here, but it's not GOOD enough for me.

My manager came to me for advice one day and confessed that she was starting a business and wanted me to come on board, as a partner.

Without details, the business is a great idea that I believe in and one that depends on my hard work for success. Now the time has come, we are quitting our jobs and starting the business. My investment is only 15K, which won't bankrupt me.

My mom, who was for the idea, is now against it because of my investment. She thinks my 2 partners should take all the financial risk, but I should have equal reward. She's against me investing 15K for my future. She doesn't understand I have to invest and that's the difference between a partner & employee. She's trying to protect me, but it brings me down.

I want to be able to do this without parents casting doubts over my head, and maintain a good relationship.

  1. Your parents are scared. Otherwise they would be happy for you and I am sure they are, but as parents that seems to be a big part of our job is to worry. You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders and if you think this business will take off and you will do good then go for it. They will see the end results and know they raised a daughter who can and will go after what she needs and wants. That will not only make you successful, but your parents, knowing you are.
